Vaccinations confer immunity to many diseases that spread easily and cause death and maiming. If everyone or nearly everyone is immune to a disease then it cannot spread and develop into an epidemic hurting those very, very few who are too young or for medical reasons cannot tolerate the vaccinations.
Those who choose to believe charlatans on the talk circuit and fail to understand the basic workings of biology are hiving off the rest of society that chooses to limit or eliminate these scourges. It is too late to be sorry that your child caught polio and is crippled for life when a simple procedure would have alerted their immune system in time to prevent it. I am a firm believer in the amazing public health benefits we have enjoyed with immunity to those childhood and adult killer diseases. Yet I do not think that we should mandate that every child, against their parent’s wishes, be protected against disease. We cannot protect every-one from stupidity and selfishness.
As many as 13 million people will face famine if the recurring locust plague is not curbed this year. The insects which resemble large grasshoppers hatch in the billions and create huge hungry swarms which can devastate a field of crops, eating everything green. It has been estimated that the swarms consume over 100,000 tonnes of greenery every day.
